The Lord Mayor Professor Alderman Michael Mainelli invited the Spectacle Makers' Company to present the next lecture in his 'Knowledge Miles' virtual series. Professor Mainelli's working theme is 'Connect To Prosper - The Knowledge Miles In The World's Coffeehouse’, and this webinar series is one of the ways he is celebrating the many 'Knowledge Miles' of The Square Mile.

This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the first intra-ocular lens implant, performed at St Thomas' Hospital by Sir Harold Ridley and since then cataract surgery has become the most commonly performed surgery on the NHS and world wide. Professor Chris Hammond, Liveryman and Ophthalmologist, will be exploring the discoveries and innovations made by vision scientists, clinicians and eye health professionals throughout history, which have transformed our understanding of vision and improved the lives of millions of people around the world.

Join the next 'Knowledge Miles' to learn more about how research in London is working to reduce your chance of developing a cataract and about 21st century genetic, AI and technology studies in this area, and to consider the actions and collaborative effort required to offset the societal and environmental factors affecting our vision and health as a whole.
