The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers
Supporting the prevention and treatment of vision impairment since 1629

We are the oldest existing optical body in the world, founded by Royal Charter in 1629.

Our purpose is to support the prevention and treatment of vision impairment
and to be the voice of optics in
the City of London.

That purpose has been the same for almost four centuries.

Rooted by tradition, we bring the best of our heritage to bear on very modern professions.

We're interested in everything that can be done now to prevent unnecessary sight loss and enhance active living.
You don't have to make spectacles or work in eye health to join our Company.

Our members come from a wide range of professions  and live and work across the world.

What unites us?  A commitment to better vision, better senses, for life.

We're proud to be at the heart of a craft that every day changes people’s lives.          We remain a close community, wherever we are in the world, together or apart.
