The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers
Supporting the prevention and treatment of vision impairment since 1629

We are the oldest existing optical body in the world, founded by Royal Charter in 1629.

Our purpose is the same now as it was then: to support better vision for all

We seek to inspire future generations committed to visionary eyecare, building on our rich heritage of almost 400 years.

We're interested in everything that can be done now to prevent unnecessary sight loss and enhance active living.

Apolitical, independent and open, we offer unequalled multi-disciplinary networking. You don't have to make spectacles or work in eye health to join our Company.  Our members come from a wide range of professions  and live and work across the world. What unites us?  Support for our craft, country, community and charity and that shared commitment to better vision for all.

We're proud to be at the heart of a craft that every day changes people’s lives.  We remain a close community, wherever we are in the world, together or apart.
