St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital receives support for post-COVID patient backlog
In 2020, national lock-downs caused by the Covid-19 pandemic significantly reduced the number of patients St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group were able to reach and treat. This particularly impacted on patients in rural areas or those concerned about paying for treatment. To assist the hospital with the anticipated patient backlog as they ramp up their services to catch up on those missed last year, the Spectacle Makers’ Charity has made a grant of £2,000 to cover some of the staff and medical costs.
St John Eye Hospital CEO, Ahmad Ma’ali shared: “We would like to thank the Spectacle Makers’ Charity for this generous donation which will go a long way to help our most vulnerable patients get access to the treatment they urgently need.”
The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group was established in 1882, and is the only charitable provider of expert eye care in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. Last year it supported more than 107,000 people and carried out over 5,700 major eye operations.
