Level 4 Diploma for Optical Assistants

This diploma is intended to equip senior optical assistants and potential practice managers with the knowledge and skills they will need in practice. There are both written and practical elements and no candidate can be awarded the diploma unless they pass a practical assessment, involving station tasks on the day, submission of a portfolio of evidence of work undertaken in practice and reflection upon it and a viva.  Candidates must pass 5 mandatory units and 3 optional units from a choice of six.

Like the Level 4 Diploma for Optical Technicians, there is an opportunity to move forward to a dispensing course for candidates who pass the required technical units.  Further information can be found in the Qualification Handbook.

Candidates who pass all the required units before 31 March 2021 will receive their diploma from WCSM.  Those who are still to complete will be able to transfer automatically to the comparable qualification for which ABDO will be the Awarding Organisation.  There will be no change in the standard of the qualification during this transitional phase.
