CORRESPONDENCE COURSE 2005

UK/EU and International

The course follows the same syllabus with same examination as the day release programme, so successful candidates achieve an identical certificate.

No educational requirements for course enrolment, but applicants should have been employed in the industry or a workshop for at least two years.

The Course Tutors, via correspondence, take candidates through a weekly paper. Candidates will need to make their own arrangements for practical work, or may prefer to attend an S.M.C modular course.

UK Course Fee: £450.00 per year
EU Course Fee: £550.00 per year
International Course Fee: £650.00 per year
1st Year UK Exam Enrolment: £125.00 #
2nd Year Exam Enrolment Fee: £150.00 #

All fees current as at 01/01/2005 - the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers reserves the right to alter published fees without prior consultation.

# Non UK exam centres may incur extra fees.

Courses commences September of each year and
January when sufficient demand exists.

 

The examinations are:

Part I After the first year of the Course, the Part I examination comprises 2 written papers: Mathematics, Optics & Ancillary Subjects and Ophthalmic Lenses & Frames.

Part II After the second year, the Part II examination comprises 2 written exam papers: Ophthalmic Lenses and Frames & Ancillary Subjects, in addition to Practical Examinations. The Part II Practicals comprise five sections: Projects/Oral/ Frames/ Lenses / Surfacing Instruction (Docket Writing).

Full details of the syllabus can be obtained from the Administrator or you can request an application form, which will have to be sent with a £100 deposit, to guarantee a place on the Course. As places are very limited and books may have to be purchased before commencement, early application is always advised.
