THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF SPECTACLE MAKERS

AWARD

FOR
INNOVATION IN BRITISH OPTICS

Winners - 2001

The first prize of £1,000 was awarded to Professor Mo Jalie & Liveryman Robert Roote for their Clinical Demonstrator of the Benefit of Anti-Reflection Coating. This shows clearly and simply the great benefit to the wearer of an anti-reflection coating in high contrast lighting conditions. It demonstrates the benefit by starkly displaying a particularly uncomfortable and hazardous night driving situation.

The second prize of £400 was won by Contact Lens Precision Laboratories Limited for their development of Spherical Aberration Management Technology Application to Cast-Moulded and Lathe-Cut Contact Lenses. The technology has been developed to improve the power control and inherent quality of all contact lenses, regardless of material or manufacturing method employed.

Third prize of £200 went to Dr David Thomson of City University for his Test Chart 2000. This is a Windows based computer programme designed to exploit modern developments in display technology to provide optometrists with an extremely powerful and versatile tool for vision assessment.
