Training & Qualifications for Optical Technicians:
The Level 4 Diploma for Optical
Technicians
The Level 4 Diploma for Optical Technicians is the new name, under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) for the WCSM's Certificate for Optical Technicians, regarded by many as the 'Gold Standard' for the industry. Holders of the qualification are entitled to use the letters WCSM (Tech) after their name.
It is tailored to the needs of those who aspire to become senior technicians and supervisors. Holders of this qualification are exempt from most of the first year course leading to the Association of British Dispensing Opticians Diploma.
The examinations are normally held twice a year in June and December. At the end of the first year Part 1 examinations are held and successful candidates may then continue to take Part 2, normally the following year. Unsuccessful candidates can undertake re-sits.
